I filled my pickup with gas yesterday. Some quick math before I even started the pump had me braced for shelling out over $75 just for the privilege of driving myself to work for a week. What are gas prices like where you live?

$3.05 for regular. It costs about $35 to fill up Little Martha. It's about $70 to fill up SD's minivan and I won't even talk about the Explorer with it's oversized tank. Lately, we only use it for taking trash to the dump.
One of my greatest pleasures is driving all over the county, going down back roads and all, but it's costing too much to justify it.
For Little Martha, with my driving habits (if I don't do anything recreational) a tank will last me 3 weeks. But, I don't get out every day, and it's only 4 miles to the grocery store/etc.
I didn't even FILL my tank - as I still had 1/4 left. So had I been bone dry? Easily in the $100 area for a TANK OF GAS.
And now that we live in the middle of fricking nowhere - I can go through that in a week. Easy.
At this rate, it would be cheaper to rent an apartment in town ... hmmm ... that's an idea.
In my corner of PA the price just hit $3. We always lag a bit behind the rest of the country. But it still hurts. If you're spending so much on gas that leaves less money for other things.
Maybe you could find a commuter car? Something really small and efficient, keep the truck but drive something that's 40mpg. One of those that #2 calls a "Democrat's Car"
$3.52 for regular here. $3.05 for diesel. My SUV is about 40 to fill and I drive about 1500 miles a month. Our gas bill is hovering about 800 a month, the same as our mortgage.
haw...you been spammed!
I got spammed. What the hell? I can't get Blogger to require "word verification" - I must be doing something wrong.
It's $3.09 here, you can still find the rare gas station that is holding on to $2.99. Starting next week (memorial day, and school lets out by Friday all over the state) I expect it to jump up.
We Texans love to drive.
I did the maths the other day for an American friend, and at Au$1.27 a litre, it converts to US$4.03 - and the price is set to get higher...
